Frequently Asked Questions
Osteopathy is a type of manual therapy that helps facilitate the self-healing and self-regulating process that your body already has. The goal is to free the nerves, arteries, veins and lymphatic systems of restrictions caused by your hard and soft tissues (fascia, muscles, bones, tendons & ligaments). When we assess and treat your body, we look at the body as a whole and try to find the root cause of the problem.
Osteopathy can help a wide range of symptoms/conditions. You do not need to meet any specific requirements to see an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner.
Some of the things osteopathy can help with are:
• Reducing muscle and joint pain
• Improving mobility and posture
• Improving circulation and fluid exchange in the body
• Promoting the self-healing and self-regulating mechanisms of the body
• Finding the root cause of your pain
Most insurance companies accept osteopathic treatments. Check with your insurance provider to see if osteopathy is included in your benefits package!
Unfortunately we are not offering direct billing to insurance companies at this time. After each appointment you will be provided with a receipt for your treatment that has all of the information needed for you to submit to your insurance provider, given you have coverage for Osteopathy.
You do not need a doctor referral for treatment. However, if you are regularly seeing your primary care physician for any reason, we may ask you to confirm that your doctor has cleared you for manual therapy treatments.
Your first treatment will be scheduled for 45 minutes to allow time for a comprehensive health history review and initial assessment and treatment. Each follow up treatment will be scheduled for 30 minutes.
While we schedule a 30 minute time slot, this does not mean you will be treated for the full 30 minutes. We treat based on what your body needs at that particular point in time — whether it be a full 20 minute treatment or only 10.
We ask that you wear loose, comfortable clothing and nothing too bulky. Please leave any large jewelry, watches, belts, hair accessories/hats at home to avoid forgetting them in clinic. You will be asked to remove these items prior to treatment for safety purposes. You will also be asked to remove your shoes prior to treatment, so we recommend wearing or bringing socks.
You may experience some soreness, headaches, tiredness or general joint/muscle discomfort. This is normal and should subside within a couple of days. If you do not experience these symptoms that is also normal! Everyone’s bodies react differently to treatment and this does not mean the treatment wasn’t effective.
At Fallon Osteopathy, we provide specialized osteopathic care tailored to support women throughout pregnancy and after childbirth. Osteopathy helps manage common prenatal issues such as back pain, pelvic discomfort, and postural changes by using gentle, safe techniques to improve joint mobility, reduce muscle tension, and enhance circulation. This holistic approach promotes overall well-being, facilitating a more comfortable pregnancy. After delivery, osteopathic treatment focuses on restoring balance to the musculoskeletal system, addressing strain from labor and caring for the body’s postural adaptations. Our goal is to support recovery, ease pain, and encourage optimal physical function, helping new mothers regain strength and vitality. All treatments are personalized to ensure safety and effectiveness during this critical period.
Osteopathy is great for all ages, including your little ones. I am currently offering paediatric treatments for children ages two to twelve. If your child is over the age of twelve please book an adult treatment. If your child is under the age of two, feel free to reach out to me and I would love to answer any questions and give a referral for an osteopathic manual practitioner that specializes in infants and babies.
